What to expect

Many people believe the most effective way to learn a language is to be immersed in it. But Marion knows from experience that the process of learning 'on location' by yourself doesn't always work. In fact, if it doesn't go well, it can put you off learning French entirely.

That's where a Fresh in France course can help. Marion will prepare you and accompany you as you go through everyday life scenarios. She'll be there to enhance your learning process, guide you through each situation and make sure everything goes smoothly.

Marion will give you the tools and confidence to hold good conversations with French people – ensuring that the locals always respond with patience, encouragement and in a way you can understand.

Example activities:

  • Buying food at the market or supermarket

  • Ordering food in a café or restaurant

  • Asking for directions or information

  • Having a small chat explaining “Fresh in France” to a French person

  • Having a chat about yourself

  • Shopping for clothes

  • Cooking in French

  • Travelling around on public transport

  • Chatting with a taxi driver

  • Having a phone conversation in French

Example lessons:

  • Scenarios and role-plays about real-life situations

  • Vocabulary and sentence structure drilling

  • How to continue learning French using the internet

  • How to use your phrasebook effectively

  • Making recordings that you can listen to after the immersion

  • How to browse the internet in French

  • How to make sense of a French newspaper

  • How to make sense of the news on TV

I thoroughly enjoyed my immersive program in France – in particular the day to day activities, such as going to a town market, buying a return train ticket and visiting a historical location, in my case the Palace of Versailles, which allowed me to practice my French in a 'real' setting

Marion was extremely supportive both in terms of encouraging me to try out new experiences, but also in being flexible in her approach to meet my specific needs.

"I have been spending my holidays in Charente ever since I was a little girl. During my time there I have met a lot of English couples who intended to become fluent, but have never found a way to do it.

They are all lovely, sociable people who are making the countryside even more beautiful by renovating barns and old houses. They only need to improve their language skills to be able to make French friends and truly enjoy everything the area has to offer.

Sometimes their limited French skills can make everyday life tricky. They might be worried about going to the doctor or to the French hospital, and I don't want that be something that forces them to go back to England.

I want any English residents to realise that they can improve their French to the point that they can feel completely confident in all aspects of their life.

In fact, when I was learning English I went to the UK to visit one of my English neighbours from Charente. They welcomed me into their UK home and my confidence and ability improved so much. I want to be able to give that back and help English people in France to communicate well in French."
